Jergenson, a freshman at Lipscomb University, was the state tournament MVP for Gallatin's Class AAA championship team last March. Last week doctors amputated both of Jergenson's legs below the knee, and yesterday she was still listed in critical condition at St. Thomas Hospital.
Lipscomb University has also started the Kaia Jergenson Medical Fund. "This will be for the family to use however they wish," Gallatin athletic director Steve Duke said. Blackman will be eligible to compete for region and state championships in all sports except football for the 2000-2001 school year. But because football schedules in two-year contracts and next season is the second year, Black-man wouldn't be able to schedule enough games to play Division "We have two options, one is to play Division and maybe compete for a football state championship or play Division I where we wouldn't be eligible for a region or state championship," Alsup said.
